Claravoyance

The moon rose overhead brightening the night as Rulian walked along a old mountain trail, returning to the inn he had left early that morning.
Rulian was 6'7" with pointy ear and long blond hair, with a black streak falling in front of his eye. Because of his features he was always geneally avoided untill after his job was done. He dressed like a hunter and carried a bow but he never returned to town with an animal of any kind so many villagers though he was a rather bad hunter which always made Rulian laugh. If only they knew what he was hunting.

The moonlight lit the feild as she tried with difficulty to run in her heavy dress and pettycoats, one hand covering her mouth as she gasped in the cool air, trying not to sob. "God why?" she breathed as she continued to run. When she reached the edge of the feild she could see the dim flickering lights of candles sitting in windowsills of the city below. She stared at it before colapsing to her knees with a grunt. Her one pale hand remained over her mouth while the other clutched her stomach. She was so thirsty, so hungry, but she didn't want to listen to her stomach. She let out a whimper as a spasm of pain shot through her mouth.

Rulian finally hit the end of the trail and peered down at the small village below, just beyond the small hill in front of him.
He continued on his path and hummed a tune from his childhood but something caught the corner of his eye.
In the moonlight Rulian saw the outline of a maiden sitting at the edge of the field. Curiopusly he went over toward her, no women should be out alone this late; he figured he would 'comfort' her and return her to the village. When he finally was in hearing range he called to the girl in his singsong voice.
"Goodevening Miss, what might you be doing here this late at night?" It was only after he called to her did he notice the strange aura from the girl, at which he became a little more defensive keeping on hand firmly on his bow.

Her head shot up and she gazed at him with blood red eyes. "N-no! Stay away from me!" she cried, cursing herself for the fact that her voice seemed so alluring now, even in distress. She groaned when the sound of Rulian's hearbeat reached her ears. "Please stay back." she breathed, removing her hand from her mouth to hold it up, as if to stop him or ward him away.

Rulian had seen red eyes like that before, none ever in the past had peirced through the darkness like their kind. It was strange to Rulian that she would be defensive though something was wrong. "Why miss? I won't hurt you I just want to help." He said taking a few steps closer still holding his bow lightly in his hand.

"No!" she cried again as she quickly tried to shuffle away from him, causing her to step on her many skirts and get slightly tangled. "I-I don't want to hurt you. Stay away!" she cried. She could feel her fangs lengthening as she spoke, which sent another spasm of pain through her mouth. "I'm so thirsty." she groaned under her breath.

Rulian still approched her slowly smiling. "Don't worry, I know what you are and you arn't much a threat to me right now if your thirsty. Here I was saving this to distract my realprey but I think it would be best to stop you before you become my next hunt." Rulian said pulling a vial of red liquid from the pocket of his outer vest. Opening the top of the vial he held it out to the girl waiting for her instincts make her drink it.

As soon as the vial was opened the smell hit her. All thoughts of trying to act human abandoned her. She moved so swiftly no human could ever detect it and snached the bottle from Rulian, drinking it greedily and glaring at Rulian like a starving dog in threat of having it's meal taken away. When she was satisfied she wiped the back of her hand over her mouth and held the bottle out for Rulian to take back. Thank you." she said in a quiet voice, it was hard for her not to gage at the thought of what she just did. She still couldn't get used to the fact that the only thing she craved was blood. She closed her eyes and exhailed, consentrating for a moment. When she opened her eyes again they were no longer blood red, but their original blue-green.

Rulian let out a sigh of relief. "It's good that one vial satisfied you, I think i would have to carry you back if you had another. That matter aside; what's your name and what happened that would make you run out here this time without your senses about you?" he asked sitting himself beside her being sure he had his bow sitting between himself and her.

She looked at him confused. "I'm sorry. My name is Rae. I-I do not know what to do with myself. My siblings and I, we-we don't really have any place to go, and we can not be seen by the people we know like this, but we are too afraid to move on." She said, blinking slowly when her head began to feel strange. She reached a slender hand up and placed it on her forehead. "What-or who are you? How did you know what I am? And why are you not afraid?" she asked turning to him, it was then that her eyes focused on his pointed ears.

"I, my dear, am not human either. But alas that is not the reason i know what you are, I know what you are because... I kill your kind" Rulian said staring her straight in the eyes as he said the final words. His grip tightened on his bow incase she lunged at him.
"-but Miss, I am not hunting you so you need not fear me unless you assult me." He quickly continued keeping his eyes fixed on Rae. "So Rae... you say their are more of your kind in town as well?" He questioned worrying that this could hampen his hunt.

Rae's eyes widened with fear as she stared at the other. She quickly tried to move away but found herself sluggish and clumsy. Instead of shifting away as she had planned she ended up falling on to her side. She tried once again to move away and only succeeded in moving about a foot before she got one foot tangled in her skirts, which ended up pulling them up to expose her one pale leg up to her thigh. The struggle also caused her loosly pinned hair to tumble about her. "I-I take back what I said. There's no one here so, so stay away!" she said, her voice was on the verge of trembling.

The minute she made attept to escape Rulian was on his feet eyes locked on Rae and arrow readied at Rae. "Listen Miss, That blood also contained poison that has you as graceful as a human after a few drinks,in a paniked run theres no way you can outrun me nor live. I have one target, His name is Rodrik and lives in those mountains, Tell me what you or your 'siblings' connection to him is other wise you will face the same fate as he." Rulian thretened in a icey tone, even in his lyrical voice this threat was all to real to any beast under his aim.

She looked up to see an arrow in her face and she tried to shrink into th eground she was lying on. Tears began to roll down her cheeks as she stared up at Rulian, terrified and confused. "I don't know! I don't know!" She sobbed, "Leave me alone!" With trembling hands she tried to shift back, but found she was too tangled and too terrified to move. "My siblings have nothing to do with him! I changed them! Leave them alone! Leave all of us alone! I never wanted any of this!" she sobbed.

Rulian seemed satisfied with the awnser even the most loyal beast wouldn't be able to lie in that situation. He slacked the arrow and placed with back in his quiver and slung his bow around his shoulder. "I apologize for my behavious but I had to make sure I got the truth. My name is Rulian Lafonna I promis I won't hurt you or your siblings." Rulian said in a much less threataning tone and he took Rae's hand and kissed it gently.

Rae flinched and shrunk back when Rulian kissed her hand. Even if he had put his weapon away she was still terrified of him. In her drunkin stupor she tried to free her foot from her skirts, only managing to make it even more tangled. She wanted so badly to just run away, but was unable. She sobbed harder when she was unable to escape.

Rulian's disposition did not change as she flinched and attempted to leave again. He mearly leaned over and untangled her legfrom the clothing then lifted the scared girl to her feet. "Calm down please miss, If you try to run in a panic you will just get tangled again, I'll escort you back to town please don't be afraid I won't hurt youhave I lied to you yet?" Rulian asked smling sweetly trying to put her at ease.

She stiffened when Rulian mentioned going into town. She then began to struggle against his grip on her arm, trying to pull away, but due to the drug she was about as strong as a human woman. "Nien! Nien! Release me! I can't go there!" she cried, her eyes flashing red. "Nien! Leave me alone!"

Rulian stopped, but didn't release her due to fear of her falling. "Why not, what are you running from?" Rulian questioned.

"I can't! They'll recognise me!" she cried, continuing to struggle. "They think we are all dead! It's too close to my village! T-they'll tell my parents!" She sobbed, "Th-they, m-my parent's, Julia, everyone thinks we all died wi-with my husband and K-Kolten!" she sobbed, Dropping to her knees again. "My baby. My Kolten." she cried. "I can't face them! We can't be discovered!"

Rulian could understand what she was saying, it seems her parents were comming to this village to pay respect or something so she needed to get away be cause she feared they would recognize her. "So what do you plan to do?" Rulian asked.

After a moment or two, Rae let her sobs subside and she took a deep, steadying breath as she stood. "I-I honestly don't know. I really don't have anywhere to go. And I'm afraid of being spotted by someone who might recognise me." she said in a shaky voice. She slid her arm away from Rulian, still unsure about him. "If there was a way of going there without being detected so be it." She said glancing around. "And the only reason I'm staying with you is because I don't know the effects of this drug, and I'd rather not test it on my own. I also want to make sure you don't go anywhere near my siblings." she said sternlyly. You could tell by the look in her eyes there was no point in arguing.

"Well Miss Rae, I can assure you as long as the people you wish to hide from are human; I can hide you from them" Rulian said something wasn't quite right with how he said 'hide' but he was honest in his awnser. "nor will I hunt your siblings unless they give reason to... which by the way would they not leave town too?" Rulian was quite confused and a little curious as to their whereabouts. Rulian began to head towards the town as adressed Rae as an after though. "Oh, and its not a drug; It a mix of Wisteria, Foxglove, Hydrangea, and a very potent breed of Nightshade that only's blooms every 100 years." Rulian listed the top three most poisonous plants to human kind as if it were nothing dispite the fact that they now circulated in Rae's system.

Rae gave the strange young man a hard look, hoping to try and figure him out. "How do you suppose to do that Mr. Lafonna? Humans are not blind nor stupid." she said, watching the town near as they walked. "And my siblings are not in town. We wonder around, sticking near to towns, but not close enough to be spotted. And we seperate ourselves and meet up every quarter moon." She said, glancing up at the sky. She still had several days before she had to meet up with them. Her attention was drawn back to Rulian when he mentioned the plants. "I do not believe I know of those pla-" she broke off and stared at Rulian. "Mr. Lafonna...how old are you exactly? You don't look like you could be any older than I, and I can tell you are no vampire so you can't be immortal..." she said.

"Rae my dear, I am a guardian of sorts. Charged with guarding something very important which in turn i was gifted with a 'few' gifts to help,one being a prolonged life the other a gift of dreams." Rulian spoke in a riddle which he tend to from time to time when talking about himself. He wasn't allowed to tell such secrets out front. "But yet I am quite certain I could be your great ancestor I have lifed a while. As per the plants lets just say the combination of them would of killed you the moment it thouched your lips if you were human." He continued as he dusted his pants of the mud and dirt from the days hunt.
